I was confused about Miss Neville's motivation for corralling Findlay. The book mentions her concern about losing control of her own wealth on marriage. (It also mentions that Bess's mother had lost her inheritance on her marriage.) But the Married Woman's Property Act of 1872 (expanded in 1884) meant that she would retain control regardless. (as likely Bess's mother would have) What did I miss?
