Emily Donner
Emily Donner asked Laurie Halse Anderson:

How long does it take for you to go from starting a novel to the finished published piece?

Laurie Halse Anderson That depends on what you consider the starting place. From the actual beginning of the writing process it takes about two years until I turn the final manuscript in. (Historical novels take longer because of the research.)

But the real starting place - when the seed of the idea starts spinning in my imagination - that often happens years before I start writing.
