Gail Carriger I love the absent minded professor trope (Pillover is kind of one too, and int he Custard Protocol books I have Percy). I knew I wanted on who was also a Vampire in the Finishing School books. I also wanted him to be personable and likeable, a counter to Captain Niall. Sophronia supernatural role models are intentionally gentle, and aren't trying to kill her... yet.

Dearest Gail: Now that I'm reading Waistcoats and Weaponry I started wondering how did you approach the fashion part of the era. Did you first pick the year and then went to google the dresses or perhaps a petticoat cough your fancy and thus was the story's year picked?
