I haven’t read FBAA and I won’t ever because of the whole virgin thing which is gross. Will it be okay for me to read this book without reading the others first or will I be lost plot wise?

I'm not totally sure what you mean by "the whole virgin thing" however, if the root of your question is that you'd like to know if sex is a major aspect of these books, then the answer is yes. There is a lot of sex in these books, more than just about any other series I've personally read before. I have not read A Shadow in the Ember, but I would say that of the other books in this series, FBAA actually has the least amount of sex scenes (surprisingly). (less)
