Yes, plenty. But its nowhere near what they do to people in the book.

I'm only 25% in and I would absolutely recommend avoiding this book if you're sensitive to animal stuff.

The story is set in a time period where life is hard for humans, let alone animals. Some animals meet a sad demise but actual animal death is more alluded to than described in "real time", with one (I think) exception of an animal death by a monster, and even that is dealt with swiftly. I suspected it was coming, so I just fast-forwarded the book 30 seconds (listened to it on Audible) and didn't have to listen to the actual monster/animal encounter. Animal abuse is usually a "no read" condition for me, but in no way did the animal situations diminish my ability to continue with or enjoy this story.

There's definitely abused animals, but it usually pales in comparison to the human suffering. I don't recall any specifically full on scenes of animal abuse though (apart from some fantasy monsters).
Ellie
I struggle with animal abuse in books but I was okay reading this one.
