I wouldn't say I comprehended the weight of everything properly at that age, but it wasn't too dark or heavy for me. Then again, not every 11 year old is of the same maturity level :) I imagine it's tricky for parents now deciding when to start reading the books to their children, as the entire series is available at once.(less)
