Kalene asked this question about Abandoned in Death (In Death, #54):
Does one need to have read all the previous books in the “death” series to understand or are these a pretty stand-alone series ?
Delores I started the series way back in the day and read through quite a few of them. Then stopped reading for a while.

I picked up again about book #45 or so…more
I started the series way back in the day and read through quite a few of them. Then stopped reading for a while.

I picked up again about book #45 or so and didn't feel like I missed much of the storyline. A few things are referred to that appeared in previous books, but they are mentioned in a way that I could easily figure out what I had missed. I have stayed up with the releases since about book 45 and have been enjoying the series even with the big gap.

They are fun to read from the beginning, though. (less)
