SPOILER: I assume he went to see the couple walking on the beach right after he had run into the young Laurel at Greenacres and seen the wedding photo and, therefore already knew that Vivien had taken on Dorothy's identity.

Remember that Laurel saw Vivien's wedding photo and didn't recognize it as her mother either. Both of these things seemed like big plot holes to me.

He saw vivien the first time ..and next time he came just to make sure she was happy.. He knew vivien had survived instead of dol

SPOILER!! Don't read unless you've finished the book.
This is the question that is bugging me too. When he went and saw Dolly (Vivien) on the beach, it was right after her wedding - so more than 8 years before he went to Green Acres and saw Laurel and the photo (where he supposedly learned it was Vivien and not Dolly who survived). And if he only saw them at a distance, how could he have known/thought it was Dolly?

what i think is that he went to see dorothy this is when he discovered by the picture that vivien took dorothy identity and then he went to see her in the beach
so he did recognise her
so he did recognise her

I assumed he did recognize her and wanted to know she was happy. But I might be thinking of something different - the book didn't sit well with me in the end and I might be remembering something different.

My question exactly!!!
