Goodreads asked Paul Koppisch:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Paul Koppisch I think everyone is different and you have to find a process and style that works for you. I always avoided any kind of writers workshops or formal training. I believe (for me, at least) that the only way to learn to write is to simply do it and keep doing it until you like what you've written. It's like learning to ride a bicycle. You just have to get on and peddle.

One other technique I use is to read everything I've written out loud. Then I edit and read out loud again. I continue this process until every sentence sounds smooth to my ear and does not jolt me into self awareness because of an awkward phrase or clumsy grammar.
