Why would he give additional credit to those whose contribution ended when they went into coma? Honor them, yes, but it would have been pure fiction to "involve" them in the story!

Before he realized that he needed to rescue Rocky, he was mainly thinking about what he would say to all those who thought he was not capable of achieving the end result and how he would let them know of the demise of the other two astronauts. But he was concerned about the loneliness of the return trip and if he would have enough food to make it without risking going into a coma state (his anxiety). He made the choice to rescue Rocky knowing that he gave up the return to Earth, where he felt unappreciated. After all, he was forced last minute to board a suicide one-way mission, given medication that causes him amnesia against his desire to stay on Earth.
