I am reading The Warsaw Orphan and The Things We Cannot Say at the same time, and the timeline really does not add up for me: How is Emilia 7 years old, when the bombings start in September of 1939 in The Things... and in The Warsaw Orphan set in 1942, Emilia/Elzbieta is 14??!

Kristen The only thing I could see is that Rimmer didn’t plan to write this book. She explained how she intended “Things” to focus on the character of Emilia, but that’s not how it played out. A fan asked her to elaborate on Emilia’s story, and this book was born. She may not have planned her age from the very beginning to the end.
