Lisa asked:

Did anyone else find most of these characters reprehensible? I understand the idea of flowed characters, but this seemed over the top. What are the redeeming characteristics of Amy, Carson, or Marissa? I found none and had difficulty even finishing the book as I thought they were so unlikable.

Jodi I thought this book was one of her best books. Marissa was completely unlikeable--but then she was supposed to be. The other two had a few issues but at the end of the book it looks like they are going to pull it together

Everyone else just seemed like flawed humans.
Marsha Weber My friend read this book and told me to not to. She said the characters were dunderheads and the story had nothing to recommend it.
Mandy I thought the exact same thing. I found myself only drawn to two characters in the entire novel— Savannah and Brett Caspian (coincidence that these are the two least developed characters? Probably not). The characters had no redeeming qualities, no arc... extremely disappointing. Didn’t even really like Vivi for that matter... incredibly judgmental, didn’t really evoke my sympathy...
Steve They were so shallow that I happily set this aside at p. 53 and will bypass this author in the future.
Pris Campbell I think flawed characters are interesting. I think of so many good books containing them.

Cherie Agree completely. Didn't like any of the characters and found the story hard to read. This is the second book in a row by this author that I found unlikable so I think I'm going to stop reading her completely.

Jessica Yes, that was my biggest issue with this book. At the end Carson and Willa were even talking about how Vivi's characters were intentionally unlikable so that they would be real and relatable, and that seemed like it was a direct statement by Hilderbrand about what she was trying to do with her own characters, but I felt like she went overboard with these ones, ESPECIALLY Marissa and Carson.
Kirsten This is my first by this author. I don't like many of the characters. They are either 2-dimensional or they are unlikable. What kind of person moves into her mother's bedroom and helps herself to the jewelry and clothes. Carson has no shame and is exactly the type of person I hated in high school
