Heather Miller
Heather Miller asked Gail Carriger:

How long does it take for you to write a novel? Once you turn it in for reviews/edits how long until it is printed or made into a book or ebook?

Gail Carriger Right now: 3 months to rough, 3 months to edit (BEFORE I turn it in). Then usually another month or two editing for the publishing house. Then another two months for copy edits and proof passes and Anglicization. In YA it's roughly another year to 8 months before the book hits the shelves. My adult house has me on an "accelerated release" which means it could be as little as 6 months between final draft and release. I write adult pretty clean. This means that since Soulless published in October of 2009 I've had one book out every 6 months sometimes tighter. It's getting too much for me and I am facing burn out. I hope to pull back to one a year and allow myself some time to write a few projects that I have on the back burner.
