So I get that this is fiction and sometimes you have to suspend disbelief to enjoy it, but I found it so unrealistic that Mariana is a group therapist but somehow has free rein to be on campus, actually have a room there, and act as a detective in a murder investigation. Less so during the academic year, but it is possible. Several universities in the UK will rent out unused rooms to budget friendly travelers.(less)
