Frankly, I always found that aspect a little unsettling. I think the book was meant to be a whimsical reimagining of Tom Thumb, but I have a hard time understanding why Stuart looks like a mouse and talks like an adult pretty much from birth.

I think it's one of those times when it's best not to think about it too much.(less)
