The note that was delivered in the beginning was supposed to be a student at the school Owen worked at but as the book continues we know that the plot is based on his employment at a tech start up. Can anyone explain this discrepancy?

What I find disconcerting is an adult male entering a school, walks to a locker that belongs to a student, deposits the bag inside and no one saw him or deemed his action to be suspicious.(less)
