asked:
Can someone tell me if there is animal abuse/harm or ill will? Being that the main character communicates with animals I just want to be sure, (one can never be too cautious). Please no details if there are just how much or where to skip. Thanks.

I'm still in the first quarter of the book, and early on, the main character has an issue with controlling her powers, resulting in an animal's death if she uses her ability on them in a certain way. No ill will, as she does display a great deal of concern for the animals' welfare and doesn't want to work with the animals at the carnival until she can figure out this issue. Based on what I've read so far, harm to other humans (including children) is described in much more disturbing terms.

There is another scene much later in the book and, while brief, is pretty gory and had me skipping ahead. It's only about a page or so, but turned my stomach.

There is, but they are brief scenes, one or two pages, as the heroine tries to learn her powers over animals. I too hate to read about animal abuse. Thankfully it was brief and the heroine was devastated. Only one time I felt disgusted, when she caught an animal in a cruel way. But the animal died very quickly.
