Angela asked Amor Towles:

I loved "Rules of Civility" and had the pleasure of meeting you, years ago at a book signing when it first came out at a bookstore in Baltimore. I read a ton and it's relatively rare that a character stays with me for a while the way that Katey has. My question to you is- what is the best thing you've read last year? Thanks for entertaining our questions, hope to see you at another booktour sometime!

Amor Towles A recent book that I enjoyed on many levels was THE STREET by Ann Petry -- an African American writer who came to prominence after the Second World War. This novel, which is about a few intertwined lives in Harlem in the mid-1940s, sold over a million copies upon its release seventy years ago. It is insightful, moving, poetic, and at times harrowing. It can be found in a fine edition of her work from the Library of America.
