The ending is a disappointment because there was extensive character development throughout the book, & then it just comes down to the actions of a sociopath. Logically, Anna wants to keep her past buried, so bringing up Evan's manuscript is risky. But she's playing the long game: the plagiarism accusation gives credence to Jake's "suicide" & finally puts Anna in control of her own story.

Yes, thank you: I hated the ending. I gave it 3.5 stars, knocked off half a star bc of it.

I didn’t like the ending which is why I have it 3 stars even though most of the book, it deserved 4. It felt very rushed to me. It was a book with a slow but steady paste and I liked Jack and the whole writing process and the concepts of creativity, identity and motherhood. But then it completely changed into a different novel. It felt like the author wanted to end it in the Gone Girl way. The problem with this approach was that in Gone Girl we were invested in the character, whereas here we get to know (real) Anna in the last chapters and she is a psychopath I personally don’t care for as I don’t know her enough if it makes sense. I love twisted characters but not presented in the last chapters. I felt sorry for Jack and that was about it.

I didn't like it. I want at least some small measure of redemption. There was none.

I actually felt cheated at the end. It was too easy. I liked the book up until that point.
Ann
I didn't like the ending, but I think this was the only way to end this tragedy. It was plausible and certainly continued the storyline.
Brian
Actually, the ending lifted up the book for me - gave it a reason for being.

I didn’t like the ending. While I didn’t feel cheated, the way I did with Gone Girl, I was not happy that Anna the sociopath was not suspected by Jake or others. I did not like The Talented Mr. Ripley at all.

I LOVED the ending! So much better than an ending tied up in a little red bow, nice and neat.
