Hi I find the Lord Magpie's books really great. May I ask a question about one word? I am from Suzhou that's next to Shanghai and we speak the same language, albeit different lilts. Though one word fails me. May I ask what's "Shaman"? I couldn't relate it. Also where did you get all the snippets? I'm even surprised you know "Xishan" in the 2nd book. It's very rural, as it's an island in the lake in Suzhou countryside.

K.J. Charles Ack, so sorry for the late reply, I missed the notification! 'Shaman' isn't Shanghainese, it's a widely used word to convey a kind of wizard. It seemed better for the text than introducing a completely new term, so I went with that. I did a whole bunch of research on that element, I don't speak any Chinese dialect or language, sadly. I would love to visit the country one day.
