Do I have to read the Tea Dragon Society to be able to understand this book? I got it as a gift and I really want to read it but I'm afraid I'll get spoiled or won't understand. Thanks!

You can read either first, although this will make more sense if you read them in publication order. Just make sure you've read both before Tea Dragon Tapestry, as both previous stories come full-circle in vol. 3.

You can read this or The Tea Dragon Society first, and you'll be fine. The Tea Dragon Society was published first so if you want to read the books in publication order, I recommend starting with that.
