Usually something- an image, smell, sounds, anything - will stick in my mind and a story will grow from it. This is why travel or getting out of the house to see new things is great for me, but it doesn't have to be something out of the ordinary. A foggy mountain morning, a weirdly designed park, the smell of a bakery. Just something that stands out on a particular day.
