Gail Campbell
Gail Campbell asked:

Did Lexi commit suicide in the end? I assume it was her dead sister she saw at the waters edge, waving or beckoning Lexi to her.

Judith It was a cop-out ending, which is undeserving of respect...but I think Lex is a survivor & will not follow Eve into the sea. She signals that she still has unfinished business (ie. the "Community Center", a talk with Ethan's new wife, helping Gabe, her law practice, etc.)

Monica I choose to interpret the ending as Lex starting to come to terms with Evie's death, and seeing her starting to deal with events in a less destructive way. It's a more positive step of grieving and shows Lex moving on with her recovery

Katie Walker I think she did.

She was heading down to Evie who was “waiting” and “beckoning” and she and Delilah had spoken of suicide just the day before. Dr K had also been deeply concerned for the effect the wedding would have on her Psyche - and yet the wedding seemed so anti-climactic.

It’s also like she managed to say goodbye to all her siblings in the book - even making peace with Delilah and (in a way) Ethan.

All signs point to her dying at the end.
Hannah Weber I interpreted the ending as more of her hallucinating again, seeing Evie in Greece, where they always talked about living together. I don't think it was necessary her attempting to die but her envisioning Evie in the place they always dreamed about.
