Goodreads asked Maggie Craig:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Maggie Craig From a photograph I saw on the cover of a magazine. It showed a quietly handsome man. He had such sad eyes, though, and such an air of wistfulness. I pinned the cover up on the noticeboard near my computer and sat and studied it from time to time. Then one day I sat down and started writing and suddenly I was in 18th century Edinburgh with the man with the sad eyes. He was in pursuit of an illegal anatomical dissection and he was carrying a sword and wearing a red coat. My hero was a Redcoat. Eek! I hadn't expected that. Then he swept into the house of Patrick Rankeillor, surgeon-apothecary, anatomist and known Jacobite. That's when my hero came up against Rankeillor's daughter. Sparks flew and Gathering Storm was born.
