Yes, it was supposed to be a duology, but as Naomi was drafting the conclusion, she decided she needed a second book to bridge the other two!

Yes, I believe the original intent was a trilogy. The second book ends with a spectacular cliffhanger that I assume will be wrapped up in a third book.
