Had you come across the concept of an Outcome Pump before you wrote your short story "Feedback", or is it something you thought of yourself? I am specifically wondering if you were inspired by an article by Eliezer Yudkowsky called "The Hidden Complexity of Wishes" in which he described a time machine which automatically resets time until a desired outcome occurs.

The concept isn't original with me. I've read a couple of SF stories in the past where time loops are used to resolve paradoxes, as well as some where changes to the timestream propagate backwards to resolve issues.

Just finished your Outland!! It was an awesome book and believe it or not between you and "Nicholas Sansbury Smith" I think you will turn me into a prepper:). Joking aside I agree with you that as normal citizens we are not ready for an Extinction Level Event of any sort. Does not mean we need to turn into preppers but we should have some self sufficiency at neighborhood/city/county levels at the least. Your though?
