I read the Greatest Generation by Tom Brokaw. Is this a similar treatment with more modern era military?

I haven't read that book but I am going to assume that it is mainly addressing people of that age group generation (my parents time). Using that as the concept, then this book (which contains multiple soldiers tales) is showing a more modern age group. In fact, there's one soldier who mentions having a conversation with an associate who was deemed his use of his college degree in the military as useless to self-satisfaction ideals. The person who was making the negative comments had a liberal arts degree and no real job in life.
