Kaye Many of us are consumer reviewers, who are given ARCs (advance readers copies) to read and "critique" the book before publication. My tally so far is approaching 400. Sometimes I've gotten an ARC 6, even 8, months before pub date; sometimes they come in at the last minute. Although I always say in the review copy that the publisher has provided an advance copy.
John Why do people constantly ask questions like this? If the book is on Good Reads, you can rate it, regardless of whether or not you've read it or if it's widely (or at all) available.
Debie Amazon often ships books before the publishing date. Unlike major book sellers who wait until the publishing date to release them, Amazon will ship them to people who preordered as soon as they receive them from the publisher.
I would also imagine that authors give advanced copies to friends, relatives and people they want to endorse their book.
Then you'll also have people that write a review on a movie or book just because they assume it will be good or in anticipation of the book...which is quite annoying (they do this on the imbd movie site all the time)
Judith These answers about ARC's do not speak to the issue. It's wrong to rate a book you haven't read, regardless of whether the publisher provided the book or when you received it! Assuming in advance that a book will be good or bad is absurd.
Melissa (Distracted by New Grandbaby) My guess is that someone went to add it to their want to read shelf and accidentally clicked a star rating. It isn't even available as an ARC anywhere.
Italiangirl I agree. A lot of these ARC books rate higher than one star. Read it to determine for yourself! Don’t just look at the cover…BTW I really like the cover of Apples Never Fall..
