Jana asked this question about Tears of Tess (Monsters in the Dark, #1):
I didn't like "captivated in the dark" and everybody say they have similarities so I'm kind of afraid this one won't be better although the blurb sounds very intersting! Should I just give it a try?

The above two reviews are a good sum up, but then again, I've never read CITD.

Emerging from a human trafficking situation only to be thrust into a "relationship" (unconventional as it may be) with a millionaire with a harrowing past, you follow Tess's story as she deals with her incongruous feelings regarding Q and how he makes her feel. Lust or love, mainly.

Just to warn you: This book deals with *dubious* consent situations, something apparently I hadn't fully realized despite the warning. (Lol, this being my first published romance book I read.) The characters and the things they've seen/experienced are indeed extremely dark and disturbing.

HOWEVER, Pepper is a brilliant writer! Her use of mechanics (grammar/spelling/syntax/punctuation/etc.) were incredible! (My heart sings when I think about the beautiful prose!) Being as I'm the type of reader that downright requires the author to show not tell, Pepper kept me captivated! XD And the characters, as enigmatic and conflicted as they were, did too!(less)
