There are stories all around us if we just keep our eyes and ears and hearts open. I might hear something at church, read something in the paper, or hear a friend tell me a problem, and any one of those might easily blossom into inspiration for a scene or a character or even an entire story. People watching is a great pastime (a favorite during soccer season, during quarters when it's my son's turn to sit out) that can yield some great ideas, dialogue, and character traits.
