Is there any reason why Ms. Acevedo decided to write this book in verse form? I personally thought it made her word choice and story that much more powerful.

I think Acevedo makes poetry feel current and approachable. She also wrote The Poet X, which is another novel in verse. Her book The Fire on High is written in prose - but is also very lyrical. (less)
