A Goodreads user asked Kat Cho:

I'm having problems with descriptions, where do you get your inspiration?

Kat Cho Descriptions is actually kind of hard for me too! So you are not alone! What I focus on is what descriptions will have the most impact on the characters or the world-building. So I don't take the time to describe something that is well-known (e.g. I'm not explaining what an average school bus looks like). But I do describe things that help me world-build in a dynamic way, like explaining what Korean food carts look and smell like on the streets of Seoul. I also think, what's something my characters would notice or make note of? So that the descriptions feel authentic to the POV of the characters. (Also, something to do is make sure you don't forget to remember that how things smell is an interesting way to describe things sometimes. AKA use all five senses to describe things)
