Do you have any tips for any upcoming writers? I love your books so MUCH!!!
Tessonja Odette
I'm so glad you're enjoying my books! This is such a good question and I could spend an hour answering it. I'll tell you the top three things that helped me the most:
1.) Accept that the writing process is hard at times. Even the most seasoned writers get stuck on their first, second, third, and twentieth books at times. If writing a book doesn't feel easy right away, you are NOT alone, so don't give up and instead seek out creative solutions. You CAN do it.
2.) Find your author BFFs. This can be tricky and can't be forced, but if you can find a small group of like minded aspiring writers with similar goals/genres, you can travel the writing journey together. That was the first time I realized my struggles weren't just me. It also helped me expand my resources and get feedback on certain things from people I trusted. A great place to start is writer groups on Facebook. I recommend 20BooksTo50k and An Alliance of Young Adult Authors.
3.) Finally, read and study. I always love studying writing through craft/marketing books, but reading fiction counts too! There's so much to learn about style, technique, and genre expectations by reading books that are similar to what you are writing. When I first started writing, I didn't feel like I had time to also read. But that was a BIG mistake! Once I gave myself permission to keep reading relevant books, my writing improved SO much.
Thanks for this great question!
