I had a better time reading the one star reviews. What went so wrong with this book?

Shima Honestly, this book was so bad I now have trouble accepting how anything went right in the first one!
But really, I think one major problem was that it tried to follow the formula of the first book too closely and that meant the plot really didn't make any sense.
Also possibly because of the success of the first book they gave the author a lot more freedom in writing as much exposition and trivia as he wanted,. It definitely could have done with a lot of strict editing.
Another major issue was that the ethics of the book and the characters were completely out of wack and it never got addressed.
I could go on, but I'm going to do what Ernest Cline probably should have and stop myself!
Thefemalearrow Ernest Cline never read Ready Player One. That’s what went wrong
Teju Almost everything. There's no character development. The plot is almost disgustingly predictable. Thanks to the plot, the already mediocre writing screams stridently at you.

Looks like a cashgrab, reads like a cashgrab...

You know where this is going... you are aristotle afterall!
Irwin Fletcher I haven't read it yet but the bad reviews are not surprising. I thought the first book was okay, kind of transparent nostalgia-wanking but it was done in a way that that was just entertaining enough to get me to read Armada... and then wish I'd done literally anything else instead.
Kimball Because Ernest is a fraud. He strike gold with RP1 and that's it. Look how terrible every other book has been. speaking of gold he only wrote this sequel for money.
Brandon-Tandra Whaley I have no clue why people are rating it so badly. I liked this book better than the first!
