Lois McMaster Bujold:
Loved your works ever since picking up Shards of Honour in a humble bundle. When Ivan's place in the Imperial line of succession was discussed in Captain Vorpatril's Alliance, it got me thinking about the issue. Did Gregor ever establish a line of succession in the event of his death? Would Miles or Ivan be at the top of the list or perhaps would Aral be called back onto the Imperial camp stool?
Lois McMaster Bujold
I never decided this question, though I expect Gregor had to. Miles is not on the list. Leaving aside persons in Gregor's more extended family tree not mentioned in text, the most probable candidate is Ivan, with Aral as Regent/advisor. It's possible they got Aral to sit still for this threat in trade for promising Miles would be kept out.

Lois McMaster Bujold:
Hi Lois!I was in a bit of a funk so I reread Cordelia's Honor and caught a couple of things that I hadn't noticed before. I will have a separate post for each. #1. At Ezar's deathbed, Ezar refers to the massacre where Aral's 'mother and uncle' were killed. I thought it was Aral's older brother. We never heard anything else about an uncle. Was this just a slip of the pen?

Is Aral's middle name Selig, making it actually little Selig's middle name? If so, what is his first name? Or is it Grandpa Sasha's middle name? Or did they not go with tradition? I know it's certainly a name in Vorkosigan history. You use a lot of British idioms in the V books - is that to give them a certain "not from around here" flavor, or just phrases you yourself use, or?

Will we see anything more in the Vorkosigan series? I'd love to find out how Cordelia and Aral's daughters come out and what life is like twenty or so years on from Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen. Also, having just re-read (tenth time) Cryoburn I thought I should tell you how very very much the ending touched me. I cry each time I read Gregor's remark. Aral is real to me as are the rest of the characters
