Kitin
Kitin asked:

what are the strengths and weaknesses of this book related to feminist criticism?

Douglas In many ways, Mikki Kendall does a good job of pointing to the problems caused by feminism. She highlights this mostly from a personal view of a black woman in the USA but does include the problems experienced by black men, women of other shades, and poor whites.

Yet throughout she insists upon feminism as an answer to the very problems she talks about. To some extent she reminds me of the Chinese man who wanted to promote democracy in China but insisted that China remain communist.

The book describes the issues with feminism but it is up to your viewpoint whether you consider those to be feminism's strengths or weaknesses. I wouldn't say that the author does a very good job of criticising feminism, given that she supports it in most pages, up to the last chapter, where she does open up with some quite heavy and focused criticism.

So if you are a dedicated ideological follower of feminism but hope to make such a change to feminism that it will no longer be recognisable as feminism, 'Hood Feminism' is probably for you.
