Goodreads asked John A. Read:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

John A. Read Excercise. That is the single best thing I have ever found. Writing is a sedate occupation and your system can slow down and 'fill with cobwebs.'
A short burst of excercise gets the blood pumping through the brain, bringing oxygen and fresh energy. Next time you are stuck on a crossword clue stop and do five minutes excercise then go back to it. You'll be amazed how often you can answer that clue straight off.
