Goodreads asked John A. Read:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

John A. Read Don't procrastinate. Some of the stories in my book were written 20 years ago. Two were started twenty years ago and finished this year ! What was the delay ? Work. Paying the bills. Too many other ambitions & distractions. But that feeling in the back of your head that says "I'll do it tomorrow." Well tomorrow never comes. Get off your but and do it. Now. Today. And don't wait for 'the muse' to strike. Go out and find it. Also, in the 'old days' there was always that nagging feeling of, "What's the point. It'll just get refused by all the publishers." Well not any more. Writers have been liberated with modern Self Publishing. No more excuses.
