To make a success of any investment you need to be as informed and passionate as possible, and the genre you prefer to read is most likely to fit that bill. It will also allow you valuable insight into what your (potential) readers will be expecting, and potentially pre-arm you with knowledge, experience and connections that will be invaluable when it comes to marketing your novel.
