Benjamin Cross Marketing my first novel and writing my third. Number 2 is patiently waiting in the wings.
Benjamin Cross Number 1 rule is: write what you would want to read. Writing is a massive investment on any number of fronts. Physically, mentally, emotionally, financially... To make a success of any investment you need to be as informed and passionate as possible, and the genre you prefer to read is most likely to fit that bill. It will also allow you valuable insight into what your (potential) readers will be expecting, and potentially pre-arm you with knowledge, experience and connections that will be invaluable when it comes to marketing your novel.
Benjamin Cross It's a toss up between Hogwarts and Middle Earth for me. I'm not sure I'm tough enough for Middle Earth, but then I'm a bit too old for Hogwarts... unless I was a professor...
Benjamin Cross There are so many great things about being a writer that it's hard to pick just one. If I had to, I'd say that it's just about as close as you can get to being completely free and unfettered. When you're writing, you're creating, and nobody and nothing can override what your fingers bring to life. As time has passed, the stories I've written have solidified into definable chapters of my life, in and of themselves, and those chapters never cease to edify and exhilarate. My characters are like good friends growing old with me, and it's a great comfort.
Benjamin Cross I blinked my eyes open on the 1st of January 2021. But it was still 2020.
Benjamin Cross There are three main situations that inspire me to write. The first is when I'm reading a really good book and I become so insanely jealous that I didn't write it that I put it down and grab my laptop determined to do better. The second is when I'm out walking/running; for whatever reason the fresh air and the beating of my heart seems to correspond with fresh insights and the beating of ideas inside my head. And the third is... you guessed it... when I'm trying to go to sleep, and the little sheep of inspiration just won't quit flocking around my tired mind as if they've all been on a 24-hour Red Bull session.
