I think some people don't understand or are not tolerant of the premise that makes this book work as a novel.

It has a simple message that's said simply and some readers find this too "simple". It's not a murder-mystery, gushy romance or an amazing adventure novel.

I really don't understand those 'readers' that liked it because it was short and simple to read. :-o(less)
