Brandon Tenn asked this question about Dawnshard (The Stormlight Archive, #3.5):
this is 3.5 but looks like its being released after book 4. which one would be better to read first with least amount of spoilers?

I'm definitely glad I read Dawnshard first because it lets me understand some of the references better. Also, the whole story of Dawnshard happens before RoW chronologically, so RoW contains some inherent spoilers for Dawnshard, if only about whether or not the characters live through it ("so-and-so was/wasn't in RoW, so clearly they do/don't make it through this tough situation"). Besides that though, RoW mentions some of the things from DS in passing, and it's nice to know the backstory.

I agree with Anne that you can read Rhythm of War without this, and not miss much, but if you plan to read both eventually, reading this first would probably be a better experience. I heartily recommend reading DawnShard first (it's a quick read for a Sanderson novel).(less)
