Goodreads asked Alex Grass:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Alex Grass Ignore everyone. If you love it, keep writing. The other stuff doesn't matter. People will talk smack about you--so what? People talk smack on Stephen King and he's happily married to a writer, with two writer kids (with whom he has, by all accounts, a good relationship).

Find smart people who are also intellectually curious. Two of my best friends are leagues smarter than me. My wife is smarter than me.

Also, be humble. That's really more life-advice. ALWAYS be humble. Arrogance sort of ties in neatly with close-mindedness. And myopia is like late-stage syphilis for the creative mind (figuratively speaking).
