I really enjoyed the book, but towards the end it became rather too convoluted for me, especially the part about John and Penny. Anyone care to enlighten me?

There seemed to be nothing…moreI enjoyed the book, but I didn't like the ending. Elizabeth seemed to know what was going to happen, and she let it happen. There seemed to be nothing leading to her conclusion, and it just seemed wrong to me. I also didn't know whether to trust the confessions coming from one of the characters near the end. Why would he tell the other character those things? Was he planning to murder the man he was confessing to? I also found it confusing that there were two characters named Steve, and one named Stephen. There was also more than one named Peter, and I think there might have been a couple other duplicate names. While I know that in real life, we probably all know several people who share a first name, authors tend to avoid that, and even try to avoid having two characters whose names start with the same first letter.
