Goodreads asked K.M. Doherty:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

K.M. Doherty So far I've never had writer's block, knock on synthetic wood ('cause that's what my desk is made from.) I have an engineering background, so I'm one of those writers who over-plans. I create a preposterously large outline detailing what characters are involved, when they're introduced, which chapter has the climax, what elements are needed to build to that climax and when they're introduced. I even put in snippets of dialog as I think of them. Once the outline is mostly finished, I start writing the story, but I don't try for perfection the first draft; I just want to get something down. (My last novel took me probably 20 revisions.) All of this makes it easy for me to sit down and keep writing.
