Natalia Medina
Natalia Medina asked Bec McMaster:

I'm going to start off by saying I'm sorry if I'm going to ask a question you've answered to many times.. but where did you inspiration in writing Thiago and Iskvien characters and the dynamic/romance between these two?

Bec McMaster Hi Cameron,

I think you can blame my childhood love of the Hades and Persephone myth. I used to consume anything that was loosely inspired by them, and a part of me wanted to write a twist on the myth. I was *also* addicted to anything written about the fae.

Sometime around 2013-2014 I started dabbling with a series featuring the fae and Hallows. There was a dark fae prince who interested me, though he wasn't the main hero.

The story for that book didn't work out, and in 2015 I shifted the framework of the world into a UF series I was planning. Again, it didn't work out. I realised at some stage that the real story wasn't in the real world, with the fae invading us, it was in Arcaedia.

And that dark prince began nagging at me, but this time, there was a princess there too. I had a major epiphany at some point about this being my H/P twist, and as soon as I thought of it, the world and the characters opened up for me.

I'm trying to be non-spoilery, but I'd also rewatched Memento (with Guy Pearce) at some stage, and I was like, ha, wouldn't it be weird to realise you'd lost your memories? And then I was like: But how do you lose them? How do you discover you've lost them? Etc.

And then this all kind of merged in my head, and Vi and Thiago came out of it.

Hope that helps (:
