Goodreads asked Johannes T. Evans:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Johannes T. Evans It depends.

If I'm blocked because I've written myself into a corner, and I don't know how to write myself out of it, I either jump to something extreme (killing someone is popular, or an explosion, but just an emergency can do what you need), or I delete the past scene and start again.

If I'm blocked because I don't know what to do next, I just work on a different project for a while - same if I'm just not in the mood for x or y character or plot point. I'll come back to it later.

If I'm blocked from writing completely, I usually spend several disconsolate hours hopping between different social media tabs and my writing docs, and then finally do the sensible thing and walk away for a while. I go for a walk, I read something, I feed the birds, I play a videogame, I go for a nap, a shower, anything to replenish the metaphorical tank, and then I come back later, sit down, and see if it's helped any.
