Goodreads asked Johannes T. Evans:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Johannes T. Evans Letters From Ganymede, which I'm publishing as a serial at the moment, came about from a discussion about gothic horror, and I mentioned the book Daddy Long Legs, which I have a lot of affection for.

The premise is that a young woman, an orphan, is sponsored by an anonymous benefactor she ends up calling Daddy Long Legs to go to university - his only requirement is that she write him each week updating him of her progress.

Letters From Ganymede is very much riffing off that idea, but rather than being a sweet, zany coming-of-age/romance, it's a creeping gothic horror, with all of the themes of imprisonment, isolation, and madness therein.
