Facundo Castro
Facundo Castro asked Vincent Bevins:

Hi! Facundo from Argentina here. Comparing the experiences with investigation and national reconciliation in places like Argentina with Indonesia, do you think there is an historical cultural factor that informs the collective process in healing and uncovering the truth? aside from the fact that in Indonesia, the same right wing military class still rules the country and has the effective power? Thank you for your ans

Vincent Bevins Good question. I suppose culture is always relevant, but in this case I would not list it as the main reason for the deviation in historical remembrance. Instead, I'd point to what you identified - that the US-backed military won a much more profoundly final victory in Indonesia in 1965, and the same institution remains very powerful today.
