I know why Porter didn't confide in her mother, look at her advice to Elliott when he was a young teenager.
Astrid was an odd character - she starts eccentric and then goes downhill.
The book was far from good, the characters and story line were not developed well... I gave it a 2 star rating, and that was only because I did finish it.(less)
